Born 19 June 1924 Milan, Italy Died 9 September 2020 Milan, Italy Cini Boeri was an Italian architect and designer. After graduating in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1951 and completing an internship in the office of Gio Ponti, she worked for Marco Zanuso from 1952 to 1964. In 1963 she established her own practice, Studio Boeri, in Milan and began a long collaboration with Arflex. Her most significant designs included the Bobo, Bobolungo, and Boboletto chairs (1967), the Serpentone continuous sofa (1971), and the Strips line of beds, armchairs, and sofas (1972), which received the Compasso d’Oro in 1979. For Knoll she designed the Gradual System sofa and the Lunario table (1970) and, from 1975 to 1985, showrooms in Los Angeles, Paris, and Foligno. Alongside architectural projects such as the Casa Rotonda on Isola della Maddalena and the Casa nel Bosco in Varese, she published the book 'Le dimensioni umane dell’abitazione' in 1980. From 1981 to 1983 she taught architecture and industrial design at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1986 she participated in the exhibition 'Il progetto domestico' at the XVII Triennale di Milano. One of her best-known later designs was the Ghost armchair in curved glass for Fiam, created in 1987. Her achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including the Design Auswahl ’90 award, the IIC Lifetime Achievement Award (2008), the Compasso d’Oro for her career (2011), and the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
