Biography
Reiko Tanabe: Reiko Tanabe was born in Tokyo in 1934. In 1957, she graduated the Jyoshibi University of Art and Design and started working for Fujimori Kenji�s company. In 1961, she was awarded a prize in the first Tendo woodwork furniture design competition for her Murai Stool (Murai is her maiden name) which became a top selling item from the same company. Following this success, and the advertisement of Tendo woodwork in foreign magazines, the curator of the Museum of Modern Art in New York decided to keep the stool as a permanent exhibit In 1967. she established the Tanabe Reiko Design office doing architectural work and interior design for offices, hospitals, and houses.
