Plopp
Oskar Zięta
Just like other objects designed by Oskar Zieta, the Plopp stool is an inflatable piece of furniture made of metal. Zieta developed the innovative forming method – FIDU – during his studies at the ETH Zurich: two thin sheets of metal are placed on top of one another, cut with a laser and welded together around the edges. The flat object is then inflated through a valve using up to 10 bar of compressed air. This creates the volume, the legs can then be bent down into the correct shape. It cannot be accurately predicted how the metal will fold, thus making every item unique, highlighting the stool’s sculptural character.
